In 1960, Åke Nordin founded Fjällräven in his basement in the Swedish town of Örnsköldsvik. Since then Fjällräven has stayed true to its mission of developing timeless, functional and durable outdoor equipment, acting responsibly towards people, animals and the environment and inspiring more people to discover outdoor life. The name Fjällräven means Arctic Fox in Swedish and the name is honoring the small predator which lives in the Swedish mountains in the harshest of climates. The backpack was the first with aluminium frames were created. It might also be interesting to know that Kånken was the first backpack in the world to offer climate compensation. This was in 2008, and since then has been offsetting all emissions resulting from production and transport of Kånken that have a climate impact.
